Learning and Development: Introduction

Learning and Development is HRCI’s Functional Area Number Three – this area identifies the methods of contributing to the organization’s Learning and Development activities by implementing and evaluating programs, providing internal consultation, and producing data.

Functional Area Three accounts for 10% of the PHR exam content and 12% of the SPHR.

As an HR professional, the Learning and Development goals you set for your organization will encompass the development of training programs, building and enhancing your talent development efforts and strengthening employee retention strategies.

In this section, we will discuss the following:

  • Coaching and mentoring techniques
  • Effective communication skills and strategies
  • Instructional design principles
